Our story
In 2001 I opened Sybil Salon on Ellsworth Avenue in the heart of Shadyside. It started out as a first floor hair salon only, but as the business grew I got the idea to create a Spa on the second floor. It was truly a labor of love since the space was a mess (think stairs up painted black, crooked floors and a bare bulb hanging from the ceiling at the top). It was a crazy project that all my friends laughed at, but I prevailed and after much renovation and hours of painting silver on the huge old moldings myself, it became a beautiful, warm and healing space with crystal chandeliers, richly painted and papered walls and a great success!
Of course, I then got the idea to renovate and expand the spa to the third floor. Another incredible labor of love, and great success due to my amazing and talented staff of estheticians.
One summer I was wearing many unique flattering tops to work that I had purchased on a trip to the beach and many of my clients wanted to know where they could buy the tops. I started researching to find the company’s rep and ordered many of them to sell. When the box arrived it looked huge and I truly wondered if I could actually sell them all. I set up the display in our front room with the huge window facing the street and sold every single piece! Sybil Boutique was born!
In 2019 I finally decided to slow down and focus on the two things I loved best — hair and clothes — and started looking for a smaller space. I was incredibly lucky to find the perfect space just 5 doors away on Ellsworth Ave. I renovated and opened the new Sybil Salon Boutique in 2020 one week before we were shut down for Covid!
I still work consistently to bring the very best in haircare and highly curated, wearable clothing to my clients and friends.
Wishing you all the best in life,
Sybil
